They're basically what the Beatles could have been if Yoko hadn't broken them up.

Not really as The Beatles were far bigger than ELO but that is not demeaning. Only three artists or groups in my view changed music: Elvis, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. CDs? Many of us subscribe to a service so there is no need to build up my CD collection.

I agree...a youtube video search will show even Gen Z has embraced the music of ELO with shuffle dances and flash mobs all over the world (forgive the pun) that has given ELO a kind of cult status the Beatles never had. Not taking anything away from the Beatles who many consider the greatest rock band of all time, but ELO's music lives on through younger generations who have embraced their timeless sound. (Hmmm...think I'll be a music critic Big Grin)

I just saw them (him?) on their last tour and sadly I don't think Jeff Lynne was singing live. Great show, though.

I seen them on this last tour as well, and it was a fantastic show, however, I do agree with you the Jeff wasn't singing live. I didn't really care because the music and the show was just great.

From: https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/elo-...on-adored/

Lennon: Conversations with John Lennon contains an interview John took part in on a radio station in '74. During the conversation, John chooses some songs he'd like the station to play: "We're going to play Electric Light Orchestra, from last year," he begins. "'Showdown,' which I thought was a great record, and I was expecting it to be Number One, but I don't think UA [United Artists] got their fingers out and pushed it."
Lennon then revealed his admiration for Electric Light Orchestra: "And it's a nice group," he continued. "I call them Son of Beatles, although they're doing things that we never did, obviously." He also compared 'Showdown' to one of The Beatles' most beloved tracks: "I remember the statement they made when they first formed was to carry on from where The Beatles left off with '[I Am the] Walrus,' and they certainly did."

LOL only 3? I think you're meaning "most influential in changing music", as artists like the Pixies, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, David Bowie, Buddy Holly certainly changed music.

Sort of an Alan Partridge "Wings" reference?

I wonder why "I'm Alive" isn't on this greatest hits collection, one of their better songs, in my opinion
