At least when staples does a similar offer, it seems they carry more worthwhile items to burn the reward points on
All ODs closed near me. The last time I purchased OD batteries (the last promotion) they already leaked. Glad they closed all the stores near by and curbed my urge to PM and buy batteries from them.
Plus any $10 OOP purchase gets you another $20 in rewards for recycling 10 ink carts. So on one pack of $18 batteries you can earn $38 back in rewards (100% plus the $20 in ten ink carts)
Now, granted, while they do expire, unlike Staples Rewards these are not treated as a 'coupon' on orders, they act like a gift card. So....I often do my P&G rebate items at OD since P&G doesn't ding for gift card use. Spend my $50 in rewards, price matching to other stores for best values, get a $15 Visa Card.
Also, you CAN redeem for postage stamps, something you can't do at Staples. They each have their benefits IMO.
Please, stop with the Costco is nirvana posts. It's a crap deal IMO compared to getting 16 or 24 batts for FREE AFTER REWARDS. Not to mention. the majority of citizens DO NOT BELONG and are you going to pay $65 for a membership to get your battery deal??
From what I understand, Duracell batteries are alkaline, so they shouldn't leak like other acid batteries.

To be fair, the Duracell company has been good about replacing leaking batteries for us in the past. It's a pain to deal with, and you must send them in to a service center. But they have made good on their warranty.
I'm not a chemist, but it seems that they could easily fix this issue if they wanted to. I've seen plenty of other brand batteries that haven't leaked all over. No doubt there was a cost benefit analysis done on consumer sentiment about leaks, vs price, vs chemistry/performance. If they were not free after rewards, I wouldn't own these leak prone brands to save my life. Hope someday to see their CEOs called out by more consumer protection advocates. Throwing away a brand new unopened package of batteries is one thing. Having to replace perfectly good flashlights, calculators, toys, camera equipment, etc., is just unacceptable.
.
I bought like empty ink cartridges onlines and I recycle them monthly at OD and get $20 in Rewards too so free batteries is so clutch. Thanks again
Also, for leaking duracells, you can email them and they send you certificate to buy new batteries. Before they used to clean/replace devices also, like suppose your Xbox controller went bad cause of leaky batteries you can mail it to them and them will clean it/if they can't repair/clean it they used to give you money to replace it. (I don't know their current policy)

I've done 3-4 warranty replacements this way in the last 5 years or so.
EDIT: Ah, you probably meant to repair/replace the damaged item. I have only done the "Hey, the pack of batteries I have are leaking and I never opened them", which happens a lot.

I have a hack to avoid damage from leak. First, cut up a piece of aluminum foil little bigger than the bottom. place on the bottom and wrap it up. Then wrap a tape around it to seal/secure it. Aluminum foil conducts the electricity and if it leaks, leak is contained inside the aluminum foil only. This has worked for me so far.
