This Gotrax commuter e bike looks like a budget starter ride best suited to short trips and first time buyers. The 10.4 amp hour battery, throttle, disc brakes, and easy assembly make it feel more complete than the listing suggests, and the heavy frame and well packed shipping add to the impression of solid build quality. Range is modest, with the battery built into the frame and replacement options likely harder to source. Fit also looks limited, with the 26 inch sizing and tall rider clearance raising questions for larger riders, making it a practical low cost commuter rather than a long range machine.

  • The bike can serve as a practical starter e-bike for short commutes and first-time riders.

  • The low purchase price can reduce financial risk if the bike does not work out for commuting.

  • The bike may be cheaper than replacing a worn battery and tires on an older e-bike.

  • The bike includes disc brakes and can be assembled easily with well-packed packaging.

  • The battery capacity is reportedly lower than the listing suggests, which can limit real-world range.

  • Range claims appear inconsistent across the ad, which can make advertised mileage unreliable.

  • The throttle reportedly requires power assist to operate, and braking or back-pedaling disables power.

  • The battery is integrated into the frame for a flush look, which can make replacement options harder to find.

Just an FYI, some commuter busses may not allow e-bikes or e-scooters.
Why do you need a Bus when you have an ebike?Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Great price, especially if you live in a place where cops don't do anything about bike theft.

Range depends on how much you pedal. In addition to how fast you go, how much weight you're moving, how steady your speed is, how hilly it is, how cold it is, etc.

Finally a cheap e-bike that offers a worry-free return (unlike Ali). Wish the battery was bigger. Anyone with decent knowledge of these things know if the battery is generic/standardized, and is a cheap(ish) larger capacity battery available?
This bike has the battery integrated into the stem of the down tube for a flush look - that's going to make finding a generic replacement more difficult. It might exist but you'll have to look harder for it.

That's the wheel size, not the frame. The " specifications" list it for 5' 1" to 6' 5", but I'd say like most of their bikes, it's probably a medium frame, so mid 5'- 6'.
26" is a standard wheel size, but it is also the frame size on this bicycle. The manufacturer specifications are generous, but any bicycle mechanic would tell you people in the larger to smaller range would be more comfortable on a different sized frame. It's too bad this bike comes in only one frame size.

26" means the wheel but the frame size can be different to accommodate all sizes of riders.that is not a 26" frame size just 26" wheels.frame actually looks on the smaller side.specs list this as a 26" frame but trust me its more a 17" or 19"
26" is both the wheel size and the frame size. I don't know why I'm getting unhelpful mentions and corrections when the liked replies are wrong and uninformative.

I was originally thinking the same thing as other posters.

26 inches used to be the standard wheel size for mountain bikes. And frame size are measured differently and would be a different number. ie a small might be 15 inches, large 17 or 19 inches and xl 21 inches.

So 26 inches would be a HUGE frame.

But then realized that nowadays 26 inch wheeled bikes are more geared towards larger kids bikes and maybe bikes with 26 inch wheels only come with one frame size now and is why you associated the two. So decided not to nitpick about it but saw that other posters have done so.

As other posters mentioned $300 is a pretty good price for a brand new ebike. Don't know what class this is. But I was looking at Class 3 ebikes for a little bit and based on that think this is a great deal. In some ways cheaper things, like bikes, suits a purpose where it still gets you from point A to point B and it's not as big of a deal if it gets stolen or beat up.

Gotrax might be a decent brand. Instead of electric bikes, I'm eyeing electric scooters now more due to the portability. And one of the models I'm keeping an eye on is Gotrax. Some people complain it's a typical made in China product with limited support. But the scooter gets some decent reviews and I like how it's easy to replace the battery, which is probably the most expensive part of the scooter. Not sure if the same things apply to their bicycles.

Also in regards to the bus comment. Sometimes you just want these things just for that last mile and still would need to take the bus, train, subway, etc for a part of the commute.

There's no way that's a 26" frame. That's either a typo on the website or just lazy information from them. I'm used to frame sizes in cm, but most frames sizes go from 50cm to 60cm. Occasionally a manufacturer makes frames for tall people in the 62 and 63cm range. So a massive, 63 cm frame would still only be 24.8".

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I ordered this bike and thought I'd share some info, given all the incorrect details on both walmart's site and the manufacture's web page.

• The battery size is in fact 10.4ah, not 7.6ah. No idea about the actual range though. Listed at 18 miles max on the box.
• It does come with disc brakes, despite numerous reviews stating otherwise.
• Listed charge time: 7 hours
• Listed weight: 60.9lbs
• Does not come with a light, despite there being instructions about it in the manual and a button for it on the control display.
• Battery is built into the frame, removable by included key. There is no key or power off function for the bike though, so you have no way to disable it while parked somewhere.
• Size: I'm 6'3", and the height is barely adequate with the seat raised all the way up. Not a tall person's bike.
• It has a throttle! It can drive from 0 just using the throttle. But here's where it get's weird: You have to have power assist on to use the throttle at all. When you let off the throttle, the power assist kicks in and it keeps powering the wheel at whatever of the five levels you set it at. But back-peddling or braking disables the power, so there's an out. Messing with the power panel is awkward while riding, and the power on is slow. switching power assist levels is also slow and clunky.
• it has a 7 speed shimano shifter, not 6
• Assembly was super easy. It took longer to cut all the parts out of the box. It was extremely well packed. Build quality seems very good. It's shockingly heavy for what it is, but it's made out of 100% heavy ass iron.
