These movies were greatly improved in their extended editions. It didn't entirely fix the latter Hobbit movies, but it was at least an improvement. It's not a bad price if you don't already have them and want to keep a copy around, but if I'm going to watch LOTR or the Hobbit, it's going to be the extended cuts.
