Note: these are NOT the remastered versions that came out in 2021. That said, while the FOTR does have the green tint throughout (which has been there since the original blu-ray release in 2014), there are many that prefer the non-remastered versions of the films.

edit: I haven't confirmed this 100%, but from what I can tell supposedly the theatrical of the fellowship does not have the green tint issue like the extended versions do.

I'd guess that's like asking "Do you like the remastered Star Wars IV/V/VI"? No, we want the original without all the effects and remastering! The original films still exists to do a true 4K master... Lucas will never budge. Maybe Disney might for a good cash grab after Lucas is gone? Who knows.

While the effects and sound haven't been touched, Jackson drastically redid the color corrections in some scenes.

Fellowship is 100x better (because the green hue is gone)

The main concern that people have realized is that the 4k conversion was supposedly an upscale from the extended blu-rays and not based on the original film.

I'm going to go back and edit my comment, but supposedly the theatrical of the fellowship does not have the green tint issue. I added a photo to that previous comment.

Peter Jackson calls the theatrical cut his director's cut - everything else in the extended editions is purely for fans of the series.

4K or 1080p? Blu-ray exists in both resolutions...

Every listing everywhere should clearly state the resolution multiple times imo.

This set below states "4K" but it's $191!

https://www.amazon.com/Middle-Ear...0DTL2VZ5J/

in the only blue box under "free returns" it states only "Blu-ray $191.19" but at least it states 4K in the title.

Every listing should clearly state the resolution multiple times!

This listing above states "Resolution 1080p" in the 4th blue box, so it seems the Amazon product is also 1080p.

Every listing should clearly state the resolution multiple times!

If they don't say 4K then it's not 4K. They aren't going to hide the fact that something is 4K.

I know streaming (even 4K) compresses the content quite a bit. Would these movies in 1080P Bluray played in a decent upscaling player be equivalent to streaming them at 4K? I know I wouldn't be getting Atmos on the physical media but that's OK.

Interesting question but equivalent? No of course not, it wouldn't even be close, resolution-wise. It depends more on your vision, screen size and how far away you are from the screen. If you can't tell the difference and you don't care if someone else can, then 1080p is fine.

Upscaling doesn't magically convert a lower resolution source to a true higher resolution. Image data for higher resolutions cannot be created, but upscaling can make 1080p look a little better.

They should not "hide" the fact something is 1080p either.

Every listing of every type should clearly state exact resolution multiple times imo.
