I bought a couple of Samsung m.2 ssds back in 2023 that were 2TB for $99 each, and these days that capacity in that form is closer to $300 Frown This timeline sucks. This is a legit deal for here and now.

For what it's worth, PNY is the only brand of drive that I have felt compelled to proactively replace in my work in IT.

Shows in stock for me. Solid deal for the times, especially that it comes with an adapter. Pretty sure walmart has a 1TB nvme that also came with an adapter. Only PNY failure I've had was a usb 3.2 stick, went in to write protection mode.

Do these still use that crappy Phison controller? I literally just spent the whole weekend fixing a laptop with a CS900 drive that ended up being a failed SSD firmware that locked the drive in a read-only state. Computer worked but any changes would be lost at the next reboot.

I get that but what are we supposed to do with your logic? Wait 5 years to match your purchase price to be in the Slickdeal Elite Club? Come on man, don't make us feel like shiz anymore.

Edit: FYI I got me the EVO 870 2TB for $110 at Best Buy last week. Not enough to beat u but I still paid less vs $220!

I have one of these in a modded Dreamcast. For something like that where you'll mostly be reading from the drive, it's fine.

However, for writing large amounts of data? Once that cache fills up? Woof. The speed plummets. The drive is DRAM-less.

The cache seems to be around ~27GB of data transferred. Even before then, I wasn't hitting the advertised speeds of 550MB/s. But it was decent, like 355MB/s.

Once you hit that cache threshold, you're looking at closer to 50MB/s. Filling up the drive took forever at that speed.

If your use-case won't involve huge file transfers of more than 27GB of data at once, this will do fine.

2023 prices are a pipe dream, but last year these were around $100, so $134 isn't that bad in the current storage/memory climate.

BB currently has these open-box starting at $109. Unsure if that's how they got it, but it is YMMV

I ordered 2 for store pickup and just got confirmation that they are ready. My 2 MX500's SSD's are nearing end of life in my NAS and I need replacements. My use is fairly light so they should do for several more years.
