1tb = Anti-glare screen
512gb = Glossy
I went with glossy and swapped the SSD for a 2tb.
Community Reviews
The Steam Deck OLED stands out as a compact, premium handheld with strong game compatibility, unique trackpads, and an OLED screen that is the main visual upgrade. The open SteamOS setup makes it easy to tinker, stream, and even expand storage later, with 1TB models getting an anti glare display and the option to add a large microSD card or swap the SSD. The main knocks are its chunky size, heavier feel, and the 1280x800 resolution, which can make text look soft. Battery life also gets called out as the one area that could be better, making it a strong fit if those tradeoffs do not bother you.
parents buying a handheld for a kid who has Steam and an Xbox library because the Steam Deck is described as "dummy proof" and the open ecosystem lets kids tinker later (Linux/OS install/driver & hardware upgrades) while still being able to just play right away
buyers who are okay with adding storage after purchase because multiple commenters suggest starting with 512GB and expanding with a microSD card or upgrading the internal SSD (including plans to drop in 2TB/4TB)
handheld streamers using Sunshine/Moonlight from a gaming PC because commenters say text is fine and that the Deck's 1280x800 resolution is the main limiting factor (so it fits best when you're not expecting a higher-res handheld experience)
people who mainly want to play Steam games (and don't want to deal with extra setup) because commenters say Steam versions usually avoid anti-cheat issues and recommend sticking to Steam titles if you hate tinkering
people who want a lighter, more portable alternative to a heavy handheld with detachable controllers because one commenter said they might get rid of their Legion Go since they never use the detached controllers and it's quite heavy
people who are sensitive to device size and weight because multiple commenters call the Steam Deck "huge and heavy" and say they ordered one and sold it after a couple weeks
buyers who need a brighter, outdoor-friendly screen experience without glare tradeoffs because commenters discuss glossy vs anti-glare/etched differences and note anti-glare/etched performs better outdoors while glossy is more reflective
parents who want a straightforward "no extra steps" Xbox experience for kids because commenters specifically frame the Deck as better for Steam titles and warn about Game Pass and anti-cheat limitations
people who want to play Xbox Game Pass games directly on the device because commenters warn the Steam Deck can't run Xbox Game Pass games without installing Windows or using streaming, and some multiplayer/anti-cheat titles may not work
buyers who hate tinkering or don't have time to troubleshoot non-Steam launchers because commenters say games launched via Heroic/other launchers can run into many issues that may require changing Proton versions, editing launch commands, using desktop mode, or repeated attempts
