There are 5070 Ti based laptops with more efficient CPUs for about this price. The value is just not there for the price / performance.

Keep in mind that Asus throttles the wattage on their laptop GPUs leading to less performance.

This is worth the price premium at 128GB of RAM to run a ~70GB model locally. Not worth it with only 64GB of RAM. At that point, may as well get a much cheaper laptop with a faster GPU, unless those ~30GB models are all you need.

If you want price/performance, buy a 16" gaming laptop that weighs 6+ lbs and probably has a power brick that weighs more than this whole device does. At 2.6 lbs, this is more of a steam deck on steroids with a super high end laptop thrown in for free. I could see this being a great all in one device (light gaming plus heavyweight productivity) for the right person.

This is capable of doing pretty solid gaming, a RTX 4070 level of it. As you mentioned, this is a jack of all trade device, capable of doing everything and that too, with grace, not just doing it. It has extremely strong CPU performance, beating 16" laptops like Zephyrus G16, Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i and rivaling laptops like Intel's and AMD's HX series Thick gaming laptops, GPU performance equivalent to a RTX 5060 laptops and that too, without the VRAM limitation. On top of that, it is a very strong AI/ML machine. It may not be as good as the 128GB model, but still you can allocate up to 48GB to the GPU which is higher than any Laptop GPU in the market.
And you can carry it with ease as you mentioned, weighting lesser than the charging brick of some of the gaming laptops.

Great deal on a tablet for form factor/gaming/portability. There is no other laptop like this at this price point for performance and portability. I can't believe this thing is a year and some old and still hasn't really come down in price!!! For reference, this gives you laptop graphics performance between a 4060 and 4070. Although a 5070 ti does beat this by a wide margin, you're mainly looking at this laptop if you value possible portability and/or hooking it up to a large monitor while at home or away on vacation (like on a TV at a rental house) for a gaming setup. If you are buying it JUST FOR GAMING at home or a friend's house, this isn't for you. For me, I'm looking at having this on a road trip with multiple controllers running multiplayer games with friends or hooking it up to a TV for steam games at a hotel. I currently do this with a mini pc (AceMagician), but found that not having a monitor and keyboard for games on the go is quite the hassle. Yes, you could probably get away with doing the exact same things on a laptop, but minus the tablet portability factor that draws much lower power makes this thing pretty unstoppable for that niche application.

you are paying $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for Ryzen AI MAX+ 395

Like why can't a 7845hs be enough for your needs. And if you were a serious editor.. you would get a serious stand alone GPU.

This is GREAT but SO DAMN expensive... I would never be able to justify any value with this... and I am all about value.

Agreed completely. This price for a 64GB model is outrageous even if new. Not worth it at all.

You are not considering the form factor and thinking it only a gaming only machine which it is not.

It is by far the cheapest price for the 64GB model on any laptops having this chip. The HP Zbook Ultr G1a model with same SOC and 128GB ram, even with the time of best ram prices, costed over $2600.

64GB kills this deal. 32/96 split with 128gb is great for running llms. At 32/32 or 16/48 you might as well just get a 5080 laptop for less.

Does this GAMING laptop need a dedicated GPU?

As the other posters have stated, there is no reason at all to spend this much money on the 64GB version, as the only reason you'd want the larger RAM variants is to run larger LLMs at the 70B size or above. There are few LLMs that won't fit in the 32GB but will in the 64GB, which will be either 32/32 or 16/48.

128GB mini PCs with this exact same setup have gone for $1800 new, albeit in the pre-AI RAM craze.

For gaming, this isn't worth it at all, a 5080 Laptop will offer better performance by far. Maybe at lower energy efficiency but this thing isn't going to be super efficient anyway with the power hungry dual chiplet CPU.

Basically every other poster has said something similar. This is a horrible deal.
