So glad I stocked up on DDR4 and NVMe before this all happened. Look at how expensive 256GB NVMe sticks are. A year ago I bought a 10 pack of 256GB Patriot P300 drives for $115.

I bought a bunch of x99 combos from Aliexpress before the tariffs. Most of them are 14-core Xeon (E5 2680 V4), mATX mobos and 32GB DDR4 that were $27-45 each at the time. Price on these fluctuated a lot and I always bought the lows. These motherboard even have TPM headers so Windows 11 is fully compatible. Gave a handful to my friends kids and nephews. Still have a lot. Those CPUs are still very capable. I paired it with a 6650XT on my test bench and games like the Finals, NBA 2K25, BF1 and more were held back by a 60hz monitor before anything else.

What was old is new again

I'm going to hold tight and wait to see if we regress far enough that I can buy systems with ISA slots again

The cheapest new AM4 mobo I could find on ebay to drop a Ryzen 5 5600G in was a Asus A520M-C II. It has a PCI slot, dedicated PS2 kb/mouse slots, VGA, DVI and a COM port.

It feels like going back in time.

TPM or not, I don't believe that CPU is officially supported by Windows 11. That's not to say you can't shoehorn it onto such a system.

Remember the lies about covid mask shortage? This could be similar. I doiubt that no fourth company will enter market to capture the lucrative market for the next two years. At most this will last for a year. Most likely it will end sooner.
If anybody is going to start manufacturing memory chips they are just going to sell to the AI companies that will pay more than any consumer and guarantee huge contracts. The only thing that will fix this is if AI stops buying up the entire world's supply of memory/SSD chips.

Supply and demand my friend.
