This is a six month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate code deal that works out to about $16 a month, with the purchase made up of two three month codes. The codes are reported to come directly from Microsoft and can extend an existing Ultimate membership, with redemption working for some accounts and even stacking both codes successfully. The main caveats are region mismatches and occasional redemption problems, including already redeemed or used codes. It is most compelling for players who will actually use the library, cloud gaming, and launch access enough to offset the subscription cost.

Some people might even double dip. They could play that $70 game right away, then a year later when it's on sale for $20 they could buy it if they really liked it and want a physical copy.
Console gaming is such a garbage money-grab now.
Same here I play 1-2 AAA games a year but I do love indie games and they tend to have a few each month that I play maybe only one of which I will play all month.

And since Xbox has eliminated exclusives, you were way better off building a small PC (AI/RAM prices have skewed that recently), and just buying games from Steam when on sale. Humble Bundle is also another great way to get bunches of games for cheap.
The market is flooded with so many quality games (both indie and AAA) that it's so easy to develop a huge backlog of games that are already down to 50% off or more on Steam sales.
I have GPU stacked until late 2026, but going to let it expire. Rather just buy any game I'm interested in on Steam 6 months after release at a huge discount. Handheld gaming has also taken off, influencing that decision.
Of course, if you are trying to hop on the multiplayer train (Arc Raiders, etc), then buying/playing closer to release is definitely a better bet, since player counts always drop.
Thanks for coming to my mini Ted talk.
