Edifier MR3 is a compact powered studio monitor pair that stands out for desktop listening, easy Bluetooth streaming, and strong value at this price. The speakers sound very good for the money, take up hardly any space, and can work well with a PC, DAC, or turntable preamp through their analog inputs. Bluetooth quality is described as close to wired, and the Edifier app adds a low pass filter and saved equalizer settings over Bluetooth. The main limits are modest bass and near field output, so larger rooms or phono setups may want a subwoofer or bigger speakers.

Would this be good for a record player? Do I need an amp to run them? New in the audio space. Thanks
Depends on whether your table has a preamp built in. If yes, then powered speakers are fine. If no, you need a preamp.

Won't something like this work just connected to the motherboard audio header (since these monitors have an option for unbalanced TRS input)?

Or will going unbalanced make too much hum? (I am using an interface with my monitors and never tried hooking them up direct).

If it creates a hum then I would be out completely lol. I absolutely hate unnecessary sounds in my audio. USB would be the only clean way then?

Whoops, I got it switched. The TRS input is balanced but the RCA input is unbalanced.

So a cable like this?

The Edifier M60's have a USB-C connection if you want to make it easier and a digital connection. They go on sale for $149 from time to time. $169 right now.

MR4 units are $30 more. Maybe not as good since no BT.

I just got them for Christmas And I really like them. I use hem with a JDS labs amp and dac combo and they sound great.
You don't have a way to hook up an amp as this is an active speaker

No. But I did anyways since I was just replacing speakers in my current set up.

These speakers are okay. The price is good but I wish they sounded a little better. On the other hand them taking up hardly any space is a huge advantage.

I have the MR4s. They're fine computer speakers. I use mine with a sub. I would recommend using something with a bit more depth for a phono setup, but that's just me.

Is this pair of speaker powerful enough for a medium size room (350sqft).
