For those wondering, this is a budget Cold Steel folder with a budget steel blade. 4034SS is probably close to 420HC and not known for off-the-charts edge retention. It also does NOT have the famous Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock, and instead employs a standard liner lock. It's pretty hefty. Probably the best thing about this knife is the Cold Steel brand and the warranty, and frankly the Made in Taiwan factor is a strong point as well.

If you want to see what is meant by edge retention, and the difference between a low-end, but "ok" budget steel blade like 4034SS and an observable improvement, but more costly steel like VG10, watch the video below. This guy tests the edge retention out of the box, and after resharpening and putting the same edge angle on each knife.

"Probably the best thing about this knife is the Cold Steel brand and the warranty."
Nope. Cold Steel was purchased by GSM Outdoors, who is not known for great customer service.

That's quite unfortunate. I would say no more Cold Steel knives for me, but I've already bought the ones I wanted.

RIP to another decent brand.

So not recommended for $25?

Yeah, $25 is probably a good price for this particular knife. My point is that some people see Cold Steel and think they're getting one of their more standard, up-market knives with the better blade steel and Tri-Ad lock for $25, but they're not.

I know that most people don't care about what type of steel is on their knives but this steel is garbage.
I own at least 6 Cold Steel knives and they make some really good ones, this one isn't one of them. If you want a display knife this will be your guy. If you want a working knife you'll be sharpening this thing more than using it. You've been warned.

I bought this 2 days ago, arrived yesterday. Returning it today. First off it's a nice size, shape and light weight. Seems like nice quality and the blade is nicekly polished and sharp. The FRIGGIN lock is broken. It opens all the way and does not lock open. Only if you snap it hard open will it lock. Even then it doesn't lock right. Half the time I open it the blade is free to close without a lock. I returned it as defective. I used to rave about cold steel and love the Tanto and SKRC that I have. This folder was a bad product.

The video review shows plastic case and paper-thin lock-plate. I'd keep away from such bargain.
