I ordered on of these Walmart deals but it's been a week and FedEx won't deliver it. I hate FedEx.

they probably made a bunch of these gym plates/bumpers after the shutdowns and people making their home gym

these take up a lot of space so Walmart probably has to get rid of them

My FedEx guy just delivered a pair of 25 dumbbells. I was able to meet him half way to my house. But when he handed me the box, it basically fell apart. Sure, different physical format but I wonder if something similar happened with your weights. I hope this gets sorted for you soon.

I got several of these in their last sale. Theyre slippery with some sort of anti-stick coating, but other than that, they look great and like they'll hold up. Time will tell, of course.

My guess is that is something sort of mold release from manufacturing that they just leave on to save costs (they don't have to pay someone to wipe it off)

I also have a couple of these sets. The boxes were damaged/destroyed, but weights are holding up fine.

As personmans mentioned, most likely the oil they lined the mold in so the rubber doesn't stick to it when it's time to remove it. I think it also depends on how quickly it's packed.in the plastic sleeve after. I've gotten some that are completely dry, and others that are very oily. In all cases it disappeared after a few days.

I grabbed a couple pairs of 10's and 25's — they definitely have a coating but I washed them before using and it's mostly gone.
I wouldn't drop these but they are good for weight on equipment so I move between a few machines in my home gym without having to stop and load weights between each exercise.

Here's what I did once I got mine in.

Immediately take them out of that plastic bag that they come in since those bags hold some oily residue.

Wiped them down with damp napkins with some dawn soap

I let them air out a bit outside. I just ripped some cardboard boxes and let them sit out for a few hours. No smell

I should have mentioned I do have one of those ionizing air purifiers in my home gym. So maybe that's why mine wasn't as dramatic.
