Good for travel, but doesn't look ideal for a backpacking trek for most people. It holds too much and is too heavy for that. If you are a normal hiker, you really don't want your total dry pack weight to be more than 15% of your body weight for backpacking if you can help it.

Whoa, 80 liters is huge! I have the 65 liter wheeled Farpoint and that's pretty big already, the rest of my family has the 55 liter Farpoint/Fairview (plus 15 liter daypacks) and those have plenty of room for them.

Agreed, I have the Osprey 58 exos and its the nicest pack! Love it. Slightly smaller (and half the weight) but the ventilated backbrace is night and day, ill never go back to having a pack against my back again.

Damn, that's huge. I've been doing all of my traveling with a 40L Farpoint for the past few years and it's plenty of space plus it fits nicely in any overhead bin. Can't imagine lugging around twice that volume.

Growing up we took two very extended trips. Our luggage was entirely configured such that if we had to we could carry everything in one lift. Heavy (~40% of body weight), but the mobility advantage of being able to carry it all was very important. (This was long before roller bags and they wouldn't have entered the picture anyway as they require good surfaces, something we very often did not have.) Were I ever to do anything like that again (nope, my health does not permit it and some of the places I've been are very much in the NOPE! category now) this would certainly be a contender for what to carry.

There's always something of a compromise with packs between how well they carry and how practical they are when they're not on your back. A true wilderness pack will be optimized very much for how it behaves on your back, this shifts a bit towards how it behaves not on your back.

Honestly, as someone who travels a lot internationally and whatnot.... the answer is WEIGHT.

As long as the items in it are suitably protected, these bags are strong and with the draconian or egregious luggage fees these days, you can bring a lot more than a suitcase which sometimes starts off weighing 20 pounds or whatever.....

so it depends on your needs etc obviously.
