Quality impact sockets are heavier and more robust than chrome sockets, as they are designed to withstand the hammering of an impact wrench. They often have thicker side walls and usually have six points in the socket to grab the nut. Chrome sockets feature thinner walls than impact sockets, and often feature 12 points within the socket.
