I used to say the same, until I had a new born. I use this watch to track my sleep (very accurate), as my alarm (vibrates so I don't wake the baby), and ensures I don't miss any emergency notifications from my wife. I admit the cost is crazy, but after you own one, you have no regrets.

Agreed. I would never buy one new, but a generation or two behind the new shiny version always gives me the device that allows me to sell my old one and upgrade for maybe $100 every year or two. I have a pre o2-gimped UW2 purchased used that has served me well, sold my old UW1 for about $100 less. Prior to that had a SS watch 8 which was beautiful and did everything I needed, and the UW 1 upgrade wasn't more than $100 for that. Track sleep, track walking and heart rate and all that, constant access to a flashlight, timer, alerts/calendar and always have ability to call 911 even without my phone or even a cell plan on the watch. The privacy issues are the only problem that concerns me, Apple non-laptop hardware tends to be rock solid.

Off topic, but now I'm curious. What are the privacy concerns, and what's the issue with Apple laptop hardware?

Eh. Maybe if it were the Satellite compatible Ultra 3. Otherwise this does nothing for me that my SS 8 can't already do.

You can get a $300 smartwatch that does the exact same thing.

One thing I've enjoyed the most is the longer battery life in the ultra line. That being said the new OS drains my ultra 2 battery. I'd just wait for a deal on the latest version.

You don't need the Ultra for any of those. For less than $200 you can get those features.
