Might be a benefit for some as rechargeable batteries have a finite life. And frankly you'll likely need to replace the batteries due to oxidation before actually discharging due to use.

FWIW, I personally feel weird charging my S&P shakers next to my bed (where I charge my phone)....but get over it

Yeah. I dont need built in batteries that make a device like this useless when they go bad.

Just open it up and desolder the old batteries and connect the new ones. Or you can just solder a barrel plug socket to the old battery leads and use a power supply or portable battery.🤷🏽 Or you can put a small nuclear reactor inside of it and not worry about it for another 30 years.

The real question is if this is powerful enough for grinding the pepper?

I have A rechargeable unit since November and it's been great it's only been charged once since new battery still in the 90% plus percent, at this rate the battery could last years before it goes bad. Even then I should know before hand by simply monitoring battery life in my unit.

Yes I realize most kitchens have outlets....clearly though I keep a USB C charger staged near my bed. But thank you for the mind blowing suggestion that charger can be moved to any other 120v outlet for the once in a year issue when my salt grinder needs topping up, that never occurred to me.....

Wait what? A nuclear reactor with only a 30 year half life for the fuel? What magic is this?!?

I think the point is once the battery is bad, the grinder either becomes useless, the battery might cost more than the unit itself / be a pain to change, or even if the battery didn't completely die it could require very frequent charging and / or suddenly die between charges. All problems solved by disposable batteries, which of course have their own set of tradeoffs.

I have a similar set - I really don't like the button being on the side, I end up pressing it by mistake whenever I grab it to use it, and end up with ground pepper all over. I think the button should be on top.
