Anvil's 2 piece locking pliers set is a cheap grab for a car kit, beater set, or extra toolbox pair, with the long nose and curved jaw versions sized at 6.5 inches and 7 inches. The build gets described as decent, with nice material, finish, and little slop, though it is not on Irwin Vice Grip level. Store pricing varies, and the set has been seen in standalone front row bins with other Anvil tools. Clearance pricing and military discount treatment can differ by location.
Drivers building a roadside tool kit, because the compact locking pliers are handy to keep in a vehicle for repairs away from home.
Buyers who need a precise discount calculation, because the price and military discount can vary by store and the clearance coding may not trigger the extra savings.
Yes. They're a practical extra set for a vehicle tool kit or "beater" set, especially if you want to avoid carrying nicer tools or need a backup away from home.
The in-store price can be $4.90, but some locations list the same set at $7.10. The deal is store-specific, so checking the Home Depot listing's in-store clearance price is the fastest way to confirm your local price.
They can be found in the standalone Anvil bins in the middle of the front row, not in the regular aisles. The Anvil tools are grouped together with other clearance items like tape measures, screwdrivers, and wrenches.
The military discount did not apply to this deal for the 2-piece 6-inch plier set in one store, even though other Anvil clearance items were also marked down. The set still rang up at $2.88 before any discount.
Also, the military discount didn't apply to this deal; I picked up several different sets with the "Anvil" brand name, all on clearance, but only the 2-piece 6" plier set (slip joint pliers, long nose pliers) allowed the military discount. $2.88, minus 10%.
It started sometimes in Nov. or Dec. last year when HD started to get rid of the 10% discount on clearance items. Which is a deal disappointment especially when buying higher cost item such as Makita
40V max XGT Lawn Mower Kit on clearance for $499.
Maybe the $2.88 is not coded clearance.

My HD had the 3pk of pliers @ ~$5, and a 2pk of their adjustable 'crescent' wrenches on clearance too.. I passed on both of those since I hate crescent wrenches, and didn't really need the pliers... but I did get a couple sets of these locking pliers.
One to keep in the vehicle, and another for a 'beater' set for when I don't want to potentially damage my nicer ones.
