Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Just pulled the trigger. A phone and a tablet plus service for a month for both. Totally worth 100 bucks. Curious about the nxt paper display technology.
I have the nxt tablet and it doesn't really feel different to me than a standard tablet with a matte screen protector.

So, back to being locked for a year if you haven't activated the phone by tomorrow.

"The terms of this waiver apply to all handsets that become active on Verizon's network beginning the day after the release date of this Order."

That doesn't apply - it's for a specific BYOP plan & can't be applied to a current account.

Online order placed last night for 2 Stylus got canceled and reordered through Chat today also got Canceled. I am not disappointed anymore.

I see a Chase credit card offer of 15% back on ST purchases on many of my accounts. That could get the second month of service for two phones down to ~$64. Maybe even less if their autopay discount can be used with credit card payment. It's worth $32 a phone to unlock these.

Straight Talk is a Verizon company.
If I'm reading the news right, they're not going to unlock the phones in 60 days anymore.

That's the link to the April policy which still says 60 days of service - as of today the policy is changing but since it's not actually posted online yet no one really knows for sure what the new policy will be. For now we're just guessing.
Keep reading here, as soon as someone can confirm it will be posted.

This has been available for months now. I finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago, but only because I already had 2 accounts from the iPhone 12 Mini deal. After the iPhones unlock, I will add these to those accounts and use rewards points for the 2nd month of service to unlock these. Referrals were 3000 points in Dec (only 1500 now) and I was able to get over 11000 points on each account.
I did have a problem with ordering these. I ordered on one of the iPhone accounts and it said "pending payment approval" for several days. The pending charge was showing on my CC that whole time. Then I got a cancellation email. Straight Talk said my CC company (Citi) didn't approve it. The problem now, was that the deal is limited to 2 phones per person. So even though Straight Talk cancelled the order, I couldn't get them free anymore. This remains to this day. I had to create a new account to re-order them (used diff payment). But, I'll still be activating them on the iPhone accounts so I can use the rewards points. Just a heads up in case anyone gets that "waiting payment approval" status.
As a big mini fan, I also bought two 12 mini (each with a 90 day plan) and later two Stylus that were delivered 10 days ago. My original plan was to activate each Stylus over one iPhone after the iPhone is unlocked, hoping it would satisfy the 60 day unlocking policy without spending more money.
If the new one year policy following FCC's ruling is taking effect tomorrow, I have to activate the Stylus now and extend the service for additional 30 days for unlocking (I don't have enough reward points for service extension).
Decision, decision, .....
