Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Viewing the order I placed 2 days ago shows, "Status: Pending remote fulfillment"

I'll be surprised if it doesn't get cancelled.

They can't apply a new unlock policy on an already activated device. ...
Says who? They already did it last year when they retroactively applied the 60 day unlock policy to phones activated prior to the policy change. They've already proven that they have either morons or assholes running the show, but probably both. So, people could get lucky if it takes Verizon a couple of months to roll out the new policy, but anyone who is buying now should be prepared to have a WiFi only device unless they want to continue paying for overpriced wireless service.

Verizon did just that on their April unlock policy change with my March-activated phone from ST.
They didn't change the unlock period, just requiring it to be paid (which is pretty standard). Not defending Verizon, just pointing out situation is dissimilar.

After activation:
Will the same Straight Talk SIM work in an unlocked 5G iPhone?
Will the same SIM work on another Tracfone locked smart phone?
Will the another Tracfone SIM work on the Moto Stylus 5G phone ?
Tracfone (and likely Straight Talk since they work on the same tech) doesn't like SIMs being moved from phone to phone. They prefer you buy a new SIM in the replacement phone, then 'activate' the new phone by moving the line over with new SIM #/IMEI.

It's normal. Mine was stuck at that status for a week.
Of course, the status changed to Shipped on the same day they changed the unlocking policy.

Nevertheless, I think ST can still apply the new policy retroactively according to FCC's ruling.

From Ars Technica:
The terms of this waiver apply to all handsets that become active on Verizon's network beginning the day after the release date of this Order," the FCC ruling said.

Same. The Total Wireless phone I bought stayed in this same status until I contacted them. They cancelled credit card transactions fairly quickly but not PayPal purchases. Getting a PayPal refund was more painful. I used a CC this time.

Yes the order frees up ST, but Straight Talk's own terms still restrict them to the old policy currently. You can't unilaterally change terms and have them apply retroactively, else what's the point of even having contracts? They can just nullify any terms they previously agreed to in the future.

I see. Hopefully, that will be the case.
Still not sure if it's worth risking paying for the second month of service, though.

When I ordered mine, I was in the clear for the 2 month unlock. During the shipping delay, FCC dropped their ruling. So I picked up the phones after the policy expired, along with 2 non-returnable, non-refundable cell plans. I have a problem with this from a contractual perspective. I don't think a vendor can sell merchandise that is misrepresented. They should honor the purchase date, not the activation date. The offered price was changed significantly without notice.

Doesn't really matter. Sometime last April, Verizon changed the unlock term from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. They back dated the rule to Apr 1st. AFAIK, none of us who activated after Apr 1st were able to get it overturned. Even some people activated before Apr 1st reported their phone do not unlock. Their system is simply coded to check for 60 days of active services. If you try to fight it, they will just point to the back dated rule and say "you lose.".

I am not good at this and have a question. Does this mean after signing up and getting two phones? You only have to have one month of plan and then the phone will be unlocked?

Two months of plan payments needed including the month you paid for when you signed up.
