Nothing in that page mentioned anything about 60 days of "continuous" service. Just "60 days of paid active service" is required.

The new Verizon unlock policy has yet to publish and unknown. Any phone activated after 1/12/26 may potentially be affected.
Effective Date: January 20, 2026
- The cellphone was activated with Verizon Value service by purchasing and redeeming an airtime plan on that specific phone ("Activation")
- For all cellphones Activated on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked upon customer request after 365 days of paid and active service.
- For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.
- For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.
The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

There's like 1 app you can't remove.
Need to enable USB Debugging in developer options and plug the phone into a PC. Follow the windows instructions to install adb then it works.
But for the most part the bloat is somewhat minimal.
Mostly you can fix a lot of it by going into Apps and you do need to disable the app "Mobile Device Management" or something like that. It's the app that lets Straight Talk / Verizon force-push new junkware on your phone.

Once it is gone, just uninstall the usual, Facebook, Temu, TikTok, etc. manually.

Pros:
2 mid range phones for $75 deal considering their MSRP is $399 each.
At the time of this deal posting, STs phones would unlock after 60 days of paid service. By spending another $75, one would get 2 unlocked phones for total of $150.
Good WiFi device even if not unlocked.
Cons:
On 01/13, FCC lifted the 60 days unlock restriction for Verizon. So, phones purchased here after might have unlocking policy for more months (up to 12 months) which Verizon is yet to announce. In April 25, they changed from 30 days to 60 days and even enforced on phones bought before the policy announcement.
ST prepaid plans are not cheap so not worth buying these phones to use with other carriers.
If you want comparable unlocked phones, get Moto G Power 2024 from BB for $105 with Visible plan bundle.

I'm not a lawyer, but from my understanding, the unlocking policy has always been 60 days from activation. Straight Talk didn't explicitly state whether the full 60 days had to be in service, but they've since clarified that the phone needs to be in service for the entire 60-day period. I suppose the ambiguity of their policy is why they were able to get away with changing the policy retroactively.
This time, however, it's a bit different. No matter how creative Straight Talk is with interpreting their wording, it's hard to stretch 60 days into 365 days.
I supposed arguments could be made, but to me that was a clarification also, not a change. 60 days from activation kinda implies that the phone has to be active. That's also standard industry practice with other carriers, and how CTIA words it currently.
I personally doubt they will retroactively change it to 365. In contract laws the terms in effect when you sign up are the terms you abide by. In past contracts they are careful to differential grandfathered in customers from future ones.

What I don't understand is that why the FCC ruling allowed the change to become active the very next day. But the FCC didn't explicitly say Straight Talk can apply this change retroactively, either.

You'd think by now VZ would have had it available for customers to read if it went into effect when the waiver was announced - that was several days ago.
