Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Also, will the unlock signal work overseas?
My person experience is it does not.I have bought 2 phones last April. I activated both phones and renewed both for 1 month and gave one to my in laws. They took it out of US a few days before the 60 days. After 60 days, the one with me is unlocked automatically. When my in-laws where not able to unlock the phone when oversea even though phone is connected to Wi-Fi. When they returned, when I check on the phone, it is magically unlocked. They had the original SIM in the phone all along.

I have activated on Straight Talk. Anyone have a guess what would happen if you did the rebrand to Tracfone to get the cheaper monthly to unlock? Would that be considered a reactivation, triggering the new policy?

I ordered on 01.16.26. My phones didn't shipped yet. I tried to cancel but they say they can't cancel. I was told I can refuse the package from UPS but I am not sure if they require signature upon arrival. If they don't UPS will leve it under the door. The the agent suggested this: "Anyway, we can recommend you to either contact your bank on where the card used for that order is associated with to process a chargeback" I have a filling it will be a bumpy ride to cancel this order. They should not change policy after order is placed.

If you successfully do a chargeback you will be blacklisted from buying by all tracfone companies. Ask me how I know

Honestly just sell them on Marketplace or use them as trade in. Pretty sure you can at least get $50 + for each phone.

who wants to buy locked phone
Someone who wants a spare android device to use as a wifi device, or for their kids, or they have straight talk service, or to test applications. Many reasons to buy a phone other than to just call. I have sold locked phones.

Afer chat with agent I got this internal memo called: "New for Postpaid Device Unlock"
It says:
As of January 27, 2026, the updated device unlocking policy is officially in effect.
This strategic move will help Verizon prevent device fraud, recoup device payment costs, and reduce customer complaints by making the unlock process smoother and more transparent. With this new policy, postpaid devices become eligible for unlocking when they are paid in full through a full retail purchase, early device payment plan payoffs, or full device payment plan payoffs. When the payment is complete, devices will unlock automatically without requiring manual action

Important considerations for postpaid devices include:
- New device sales and upgrades will have the SIM, ESIM, and Dual SIM Dual Standby locked at the time of purchase.

- Devices sold prior to January 27, 2026, will remain under the old policy and will unlock sixty days from the purchase date, regardless of the date they were activated.
