Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Thank you for this! When you say separate accounts do you mean separate log in and passwords?

so whats the cheapest place or way we can do a year of service to get these unlocked ? does it have to be st? if yes whats their cheapest
way?
If you already got this phone and want to get it unlocked then cheapest option I know of is to change it to Tracfone and use their $99 plan for a year. Use CC offers to get it cheaper. Probably not worth.
If you can wait for a year for unlocking then QVC sells 2 Pack Tracfone Moto G Power 2024 5G phones for $90 or less for new customer. There are some deals at Metro as well.
For unlocked phone, BB sells Moto G Power 2024 5G for $105 with visible plan. Check the post to see how to get it cheaper.

Ugh. So I actually bought just 1 Moto Stylus, which was free with one month of the $45 Silver plan. When checking out I added the TCL 8" tablet for $40 months plus $20 tablet data plan for one month.

I activated them before the Jan 19 deadline and I just received yesterday. HOWEVER when I'm trying to pay for one month more of service for the Stylus phone (in order to get it unlocked ), my shopping cart automatically adds one month of $20 tablet plan too! How do I just add one month of Stylus and NOT another month of the $20 tablet phone? So frustrating.
You don't need to add another phone plan right way. You can buy a plan from Walmart to add to the phone at any time too, it doesn't have to be done from ST website.
When I choose the phone number & pick the plan on ST site it just shows the 1 plan being purchased to add to the phone - it isn't trying to charge me for an additional tablet plan so there's something wrong.

Not worth it since the Jan 20th policy change requiring 365 days of service before unlocking. Darn shame.

The power of Slickdeals! I had to select my phone number line not the table line and go to the tab "devices" to find the button detach line. It de bundled the promotion with tablet but it's ok I didn't need that since I wasn't going to renew the tablet anymore anyway

Just got an email saying my 2 phones just got delivered toy home lol
Sooo there's no way I can argue with them that when I purchased these phones your policy clearly stated they would unlock in 60 paid days
Idk but it seems to me that this should be an argument
Worth trying
He'll I got enough old phones just sitting in drawers
If you don't want them you can refuse the unopened shipment by taking them to a UPS Store.

Just to confirm, if you bought one of these phones before Verizon changed the unlock policy to 365 days, it will still be unlocked with 60 days of paid service? I bought one of these back December 2025 and have already paid for the second month of service.

Yes as long as you activated before January 20.

Buy a mobile controller and turn them into a handheld console? Or Mini wifi tablet to use in your house to watch youtube or etc (while saving the battery of your main phone). Not that a bad deal actually, since if you do have need for those purposes, this is probably one of the cheapest ways.

thanks for the advice, below is the options i can think of
1. making it a kid handheld console, which needs an extra controler.
2. sell on ebay? not sure if the value though..
3. pay hundrend bucks for one year then unlock.
4. reject or return the package.

wish this could help!

I tried twice to buy this deal (Jan 17th and Jan 20th) and both times they cancelled my order. On January 21st, I tried again, and this time the deal went through. I'm assuming that happened because of the transition to their new unlocking policy, but on the bright side, and if anyone is interested, I got both phones for only $45 ($30plan + $15 plan) instead of $75.

This is a gr8 piece of advice and goes way beyond just this specific phone context.
Signature based deliveries are easy to refuse since one needs to interact with the driver but simple drop offs are the tricky ones, and knowing that they can be brought to any UPS store for refusal has saved me restocking fees more than once.

Free phone requires Silver Unlimited. How did you get it for less?
