Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

my 12 Mini purchased this past Nov 10 with the 3 month plan unlocked this month on Jan 11. Do a restart and check in settings, about, and scroll down to Carrier Lock.
I've done that many times since Saturday to no avail! In fact imeicheck.com still shows it's locked to tracfone/straight talk. So it's not a device issue.
According to the latest unlock policy, "Verizon Value will unlock the phone upon request...". I wonder if from now on, unlocking won't be automatic and a request has to be made explicitly (which in turn may take a couple of business days to process).

Speculation doesn't help anyone. Tracfone is still automatically unlocking phones that qualify under the previous unlock policy. If you believe your phone is eligible and it accepts a physical SIM card, insert one that does not use the Verizon network.

I've tried different sim cards too. It's not speculation but first hand experience.

have you called their unlocking department and if so, what did they say? What's your date of activation? It's common that they unlock 1-3 days past their 60 days.

I called this morning (as indicated in my original comment) and the rep acknowledged my device became eligible on the 24th and but also said it would take 2 business days to process the request (which I made on the 24th). Since the 24th was a Saturday, the rep said it would unlock on Wednesday.
The unlock-upon-request seems new to me.

Just an update for those of you (like me) with locked brick phones. I now know of 2 Verizon MVNOs that will NOT work. Infinimobile confirmed no good. US Mobile Warp (Verizon service) confirmed no good. I just tried Warp today. Visible is confirmed to work on the locked Stylus 2025. I personally tried it last week and also read from other users that it works. If anyone else knows of any other MVNOs that are confirmed to not work or work, please post your results. Thanks!

Check with the free iphone - carrier on sickw.com. sickw reads from apple's central activation database. If sickw shows it's carrier locked, then tracfone hasn't informed apple yet to unlock the phone. If sickw shows it's unlocked, then apple has already unlocked in their DB and your phone hasn't reached out / refresh to the new unlock status.

I used sickw.com so often that my Fios IP has been blocked for months and every time I use it, I have to use my phone's hotspot!
Both sickw and imeicheck show it's still carrier-locked, which means Straight Talk/Tracfone hasn't informed Apple. That's why I'm curious if Tracfone has stopped automatic unlocking entirely.

Umm, that Reddit link has nothing to do with locked Straight Talk phones at all.
Ah, didn't see it was unlocked.

Nope, my iPhone automatically unlocked this morning right on time - the new policy for previously activated phones that fall under old 60 day policy is they should automatically unlock just like before.

That's because Visable is owned by Verizon just like Total Wireless, Straight Talk and Tracfone. The sims work in all the brands - but the big question is how long will it continue to work before VZ realizes sim is in wrong phone? Sims are registered to a specific phone when activated & VZ doesn't like users swapping sims. Anyone try it for an extended time?

I called Moto today about Android 15 update breaking USB tethering. I had to speak with 4 different agents (presumably in India) before one was able to grasp simple concepts without me re-explain the problem 3-5 times. The last tech I spoke with seemed to understand and told me he'd report the issue to the developers, but further conversation left me wondering if he did. He went off on a tangent that Android 16 was planned in the future and to wait to see if that fixed the issue. Then I had to explain to him how Android version updates historically broke USB tethering across multiple platforms of Moto phones. I have zero confidence in their tech support. But as mentioned by Senor-O-Brien, historically, they eventually repaired the broken USB tethering option during previous updates, after android version upgrades broke the option.
As an aside, I read somewhere there is an option in developer settings to prevent system updates from automatically loading. I haven't verified that yet.

For folks that have rebranded this phone to Tracfone, is the best practice to do the rebranding on the last day of a valid Straight Talk plan or the day after (day 31)? Mostly trying to make sure I land on having 60 days and not 59 or less.
