Looking at 1-2 star reviews, bulk of complaints are regarding size (they should have paid attention to it), so they were probably trying to use it for a different application to begin with if they needed a larger size. This is meant to go on the side of the door stop (strip that is middle of the door jamb). If it was larger, you wouldn't be able to close the door. Some reviewers tried using it on the outside and under the door but it's way too small for that.
2nd biggest complaint is the adhesive. Regardless of brand or type, you need a really clean, oil free surface for anything to stick, wouldn't be surprised if people just plopped this on dust covered doors and wondered why it came off. The adhesive is gecko tape (nano tape, it's thick gel-like substance), this stuff is strong and sticks well on most all surfaces............if applied correctly. I don't know what the instructions on the item say but surface needs to be clean and two, the adhesive should be warmed up before applying (hair dryer is fine), gecko tape is TERRIBLE when cold, like bad and just won't stick. Heat softens the glue and it'll grab to anything it touches (thus gecko tape). So people who bought in summer to keep the cold in are going to have a better experience than people who bought in winter to keep the cold out if they didn't warm the tape before applying. It also comes with primer pads that you apply to where the strip would be attached (like side of the stop after cleaning it, it's not used FOR cleaning, which I'm sure people did and wiped it off).
I don't have this particular stripping but I've used similar "random brand" stripping w/ same adhesive and if applied correctly, it's not coming off.
Also wouldn't be surprised if people buy 50ft and return 40....
