I've seen people use these but I've never found they perform better than other types of saws

Cheap Chinese knock off of inferior quality . Either buy the good Japanese ones or don't get this kind of saw IMO. Look for suizan or similar here. Chinese knockoffs are fine in many areas but this is one area where they consistently suck. The inferior steel and blade geometry makes cutting very frustrating with the knock offs and you don't get a clean cut

Most other types of saws cannot flush cut in the same way. The flexible blade is the primary advantage of this type of saw.

Some people find that cutting on the pull is easier to keep things straight and aligned with where you want the cut to go. On a full-size saw, I'm in that camp, myself, but it's really a preference thing. A six inch saw... I'm not sure would be large enough to realize that advantage. Flush cutting with a decent one is definitely an advantage, though.
