I got above message in the standard Sunday (1/18) email. On Saturday (1/17) a similar message popped up on the keypad while checking out with a cashier but not at sco. I hit yes on the keypad to sign up. There was no indication on cashier screen that 3 months are free. Only options cashier got were Yearly or Monthly w/ 1 month free. Proceeded with the monthly and finished signup.
Can't say if it is necessary to proceed through the offer on the keypad by buying something (I bought a caramel) OR straight up signing would also work.
Got the following details in email so 3 months free did work.

''I did an online order that was cancelled but never got back the ebs so they had to send them to .me. Here is what they wrote.
"Customer courtesy coupons are available in real time; however, they may take 2–4 hours to appear. The coupon can also be printed in-store at the register or the Coupon Center. Additionally, it can be added to your account through the mobile app. It is available for printing for 30 days, and once the coupon is activated, there are 30 days to redeem it.....
is this email from them correct that I have 30 days to send it to the card and then I get another 30 days
I doubt it is correct unless they changed things...in the past you had 7 days to activate and then you had 30 days to use"
What is the real answer - how long do you get to activate the coupon they send you ?

I can CONFIRM it works on these items. It did not work on an item in the last 2-week ad that was on clrx thenthat I tried.
I bought the Metamucil with 2 coupons, and the $10 was a huge moneymaker. Had not had a MM in a while. Thanks again.
