I am a certified GI nurse and reprocess endoscopes on a daily basis. Bioburden is our enemy, biofilm is our worst enemy, very, difficult to eradicate. My responsibility is to remove bioburden so biofilm does not form. The first course you take related to endoscope processing has you looking at your kitchen and bathroom cleaning regimen in a whole new light. "formulated with a USDA Certified 80% Biobased formula that breaks down tough grease and grime. Powered by probiotic technology, it keeps working after you wipe, continuing to break down future messes and helping prevent buildup of grease & grime for up to 72 hours on hard surfaces*

I'm just a simpleton, can someone explain to me the benefit of a surface cleaner being, of all things, probiotic?

I don't know if you are monitoring comments - @czad40 gave a fantastic overview as a top level comment after you asked. Might not trigger an alert for you since it wasn't a direct reply.

Biofilms can be removed with baby soap.

Or maybe you can drink this if your gut bacteria needs a boost?

Bring a "bio based" cleaner has little to do with how effective it is against bio films. I would also say that if your counter tops have been left dirty and wet long enough to have already developed a "bio film", one may wish to reevaluate how often one cleans.

At times I perform absolutely filthy colonoscopies. Unprepped or minimally prepped, bed bound, neurogenic bowel, floppy/redundant with no motility. One time they reprocessed a scope 8 times and it still stunk. When we called Olympus, they told us to soak it in Dawn. Since then, I only use Dawn at home-- not just for dishes but also general cleaning (esp since having kids and trying to minimize other chemicals). Dawn used to be used more frequently when olestra was popular (since it caused a bunch of undigested fat to be in the stool).

Probiotics cleaners sound like a scam. If something is gentle enough to not kill the "good" bacteria in it, it is too gentle to effectively clean and kill the bad bacteria in your environment.

Are scopes autoclaved?

Which is why I will request a one time use disposable one to avoid that risk altogether. Google told me the newer versions are improved, but I'm not sure if my insurance will cover disposable ones or not.

I would find a provider that only uses disposable. Gross...
