I prefer to have my info on my PC not on some cloud server somewhere where it could be hacked and/or sold. Peace of mind is worth it to me.

Is the price for TurboTax going down this year or not? I get that the H&R Block is a good value, but I'm a long time user of TurboTax, so I'm comfortable going that route. Put it on sale!

Didn't they used to include state? Now you have to pay extra for it.
Maybe it was a single offering many (20) years ago, but for a large number of years, there have been multiple products, one for federal only, and one bundled with a single state tax return.

When most people can file their taxes online for free I'm not seeing the appeal of these tax software deals.
Only federal, and only if your situ is simple i.e. no deductions, property, stocks, retirement etc. The one time I did it manually, it arrived to the post office but never delivered into the pobox and I had to efile it anyway because it was somehow lost even though it arrived to the final location somehow. From filing early to nearly late thanks USPS.

Agreed. I think it was 2 or 3 years ago where I kept waiting as many SDers kept saying "it'll drop in price or there'll be a good bundle/bonus giftcard offer" but ultimately never did. I ended up paying the normal retail price.

Dunno about other states, but in CA if you take the numbers from your federal return and plug them into the ca state tax website you get more back than through turbotax.
As others have already stated, if you make under ~65k/yr and have simple taxes, you can do it all for free.

$0 Federal $16 State FreeTaxUSA. This deal is for chumps.
FreeTaxUSA uses any documents you upload to train its AI models. I wouldn't personally trust them to properly redact sensitive information and not train the AI on it, and most of these AI products have issues with being susceptible to prompt injection attacks. i.e. someone uploads a file with instructions in the image to tell the AI to do something.

Cash App taxes is free federal and state for anyone and includes itemized deductions, property taxes, investments, rental properties, 1099 income, etc. Main thing it doesn't do is multi state and a few less common situations.

FreeTaxUSA and OLT have free federal and $10-16 state. They support multi state and many of the things Cash App does not.

All of the above include e-file fees.

For those that prefer keeping their data local, desktop software is the only option (other than IRS Free Fillable Forms I guess).

Do you have any evidence that this is true or are you just assuming? I see nothing about AI on their site.

Amazon has lowered its price also for those that have credits:
Deluxe $31.99
Deluxe + State $36.99
Thanks for the reminder, I have a stash of Amazon No Rush credits. I was going to jump on Newegg deal and just get it for $25, but for Amazon, I can get it a little bit cheaper, about $22. But I'm waiting for $3 no rush credit to be added on soon and I can most likely get it even cheaper.

I believe NY requires free efile. I normally get the Deluxe + state but does anyone know if buying just the Deluxe (without state) will work and when the prompt appears for State, i select NY and it will be free?
