The reviews are not encouraging. There are many references to 10 minutes of flight time and the drone not being able to fly very far from the controller. I understand it is a cheap drone, but slickdealers don't want to throw their money away.

I have quite a few Holy Stone drones including this one. Its a decent drone and a great price. Its not DJI of course. I take drone reviews at an arm length. So many done bother to read directions and are new users and make noob user error mistakes.

If I didn't have this one I'd buy it just to mess around with. Pretty stable in the air due to uts size.

Have a problem...Holy Stone customer service is awesome and will do all they can to resolve an issue.

I thought these were banned now? Is it only DJI?

In the USA, the situation is a bit complex because there isn't one single "ban." Instead, a series of laws and regulatory actions have created a "Soft Ban" that mostly affects the future of the market rather than your current ability to fly.
As of January 2026, here is exactly how it stands for American pilots:
1. The "New Product" Ban (FCC Action)
The most significant change happened at the end of December 2025. The FCC added several foreign drone manufacturers (including DJI and Autel) to its "Covered List."
* The Result: The FCC will no longer grant licenses for new drone models from these companies.
* What this means for you: If DJI releases a "Mavic 4" or "Mini 5" tomorrow, it cannot legally be imported or sold in the US.
* The Loophole: Models that were approved before the cutoff (like the Mavic 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, or Air 3S) can still be sold and imported for now.
2. The "Federal Funding" Ban (NDAA 2025/2026)
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) prohibits the US government and any programs receiving federal grants from using Chinese-made drones.
* Law Enforcement & Fire: Many local police and fire departments are being forced to retire their DJI fleets because they use federal money for their equipment.
* Private Citizens: This does not apply to recreational pilots or private commercial photographers. You are free to fly whatever drone you like as long as it's registered.
3. Remote ID is Now Fully Enforced
The "grace period" for Remote ID has officially ended.
* The Rule: Unless your drone weighs less than 250g AND you are flying purely for fun, your drone must broadcast its location and the pilot's location via Remote ID.
* Non-Compliance: Flying a drone without Remote ID (unless in a designated "FRIA" zone) can now lead to significant fines and the loss of your pilot license.
Summary Table for US Pilots
| Can I... | Status |
|---|---|
| Fly my current DJI drone? | YES. It is perfectly legal to fly existing models. |
| Buy a DJI drone at a store? | YES. You can buy any model already in the US (like the Mini 4 Pro). |
| Use a DJI drone for work? | YES. Part 107 commercial pilots can still use them for private clients. |
| Buy "future" DJI models? | PROBABLY NOT. New models are currently blocked from FCC approval. |
New Counter-Drone Laws
One major update for 2026 is that State and Local Law Enforcement have been given more authority to use "Counter-UAS" technology. This means that if you fly over a restricted area (like a stadium or a major outdoor event), police now have specific legal clearance to electronically jam or ground your drone.

I just lost one Holystone drone yesterday on the top of the mountain. I had it for over 2 years and love it. It is not DJI. It is loud compares to DJI but with this cheap, I rather lost one than the DJI one. I am buying this one for sure.

Proprietary battery that is prone to swelling with zero replacement options. Only option to buy a replacement is from their website which just takes you to a currently unavailable listing on Amazon. It does have an auto landing feature that takes it straight to the nearest landfill though.

Now that the other brand got banned now we are seeing all these "American" drone companies pop up. They all suck though.

It's only $95 for a very good and obvious reason - it's not DJI. And that particular bulky style of drone dates back before the compact DJI Mavic Pro was introduced 10 years ago in 2016.
