Another way to put it is that you can get a 8.0 FORGE for $115 with the hack.

Yeah, so I'm inspecting my cart and that's what it looks like to me.

I have this saw. It's super light and portable, but it's underpowered for anything other than light framing work.

Hack? I'm needing a saw for some deck work. Can I get this for $115?

add the battery and circular saw to the cart, it displays what each item costs... just return the circular saw, or do pickup at a different store and don't pick it up, then just keep the battery for 114.5$. it's not a single price kit, each item has a clearly stated "maximum return value" on the receipt.

HD has done this forever, in no way a hack, just returning something on a receipt for the value the vendor states.

I have two older 12 AH HO batteries, one dies pretty quickly and the other is just ok. Use them in the leaf blower a lot along with chainsaw. Thinking of getting the bundle with the forge 12 and either keeping both batteries or just the 12. Will the 8 AH give me close to the performance of the old 12 AH HO batteries?

If you return the 8.0 Ah Forge battery and keep the saw it is $114.50 plus tax. Personally I would have preferred the 6.0 Ah Forge since it is lighter and uses flat power cell technology vs cylindrical but they would not do an even trade despite both being listed for $229 at HD.

Both the 8.0 Ah and 12.0 Ah Forge batteries are an improvement over the HO with faster power delivery and charging. The 6.0 Ah Forge battery utilizes flat power cell technology that is a bigger step forward, with the rest of the Forge lineup utilizing more traditional cylindrical batteries with improved chemistry and cooling over the HO line. A pricey Supercharger is needed to fully enjoy the very fastest charging speeds available for the Forge batteries.

What you're describing is colloquially referred to as a "hack" in this context just FYI. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with doing so.

a bunch of people calling something the wrong thing... that don't make it the right thing.

in no way a hack, just following simple instructions that have been clearly printed on the receipt for ever.
the real hack here is the ability to read receipts and understand their content!!!

When it comes to pedantry, the only winning move is not to play. Haha

My understanding is the Forge line used the pouch cells because they were better - at the time - but newer cylindrical cells exceed even the pouch cells and have better thermal characteristics.
Either way something to remember (for Raistlin1) is Ah is capacity so 12Ah is going to last ~50% longer than 8Ah for continuous use. The battery tiers are about maximum power draw (Watts) for high-power tools. The leaf blower you want long run time but the chain saw benefits from the extra power. An 8Ah Forge will pump out equal (or more) watts than a 12Ah HO just for less run time while a 12Ah Forge will beat the 8Ah Forge on both measures. Decide based on your use case.
Personally the 8AH + 12Ah + M18/M12 charger for 300 bucks is a great deal if you are looking to get into the Forge line.

Your refering to the 18 volt fuel version? Not just the standard 18 volt?

I find it funny that someone is so insecure with themselves that they take time out of their day to go give almost all the comments on here a thumbs down. Its people like that, those who complain a lot, negative people who drag others down, and those who only care about their children and themselves who we as a society should exterminate to create a much healthier and mutually beneficial society

We must create a healthy society via extermination of those who we don't like! Hey man I genuinely hope you're doing alright. Look at your comment. You are the thing you hate.
