FYI these have an insane amount of mannitol and can cause....extreme bowel emptying.

Diabetic friendly, not GI friendly. (I have no problem with these, but I only have one at a time.)

Be warned that despite the nutritional info showing zero sugar, maltitol has been shown in a lot of people and diabetics to still spike blood glucose.

Ya look at it - way up there like 1/2 of sugar vs. close to 0 or 0 for others

Yeah. Malitol wrecks my insulin levels.

The existence and use of maltitol is so dumb. It still has calories and spikes blood sugar, but it isn't nearly as sweet as sugar and it is literally a laxative. Worst of both worlds.
The only use case is for someone to create an aversion to binging on candy by making them crap themselves every time they binge.

I was buying a bunch of these peanut butter cups in the past and then ran across some random reddit post I think about how maltitol actually didn't act like "zero sugar". What a scam and honestly dangerous to people who have issues that don't realize the impact of it.

Still 16g of carbs in just 3 pieces though besides the manitol issues :/

I literally eat one at a time, and since I'm on Mounjaro (calories are not a problem, I don't eat too much lately), any laxative effect is helpful because that medication causes constipation! Maybe that's the reasoning. 😀

For me, simple carbs are an issue no matter the source, so I'm always very careful to consume any only in conjunction with non-spiking foods (protein, fiber). But, yes, it's a problem that there are some people that react poorly to malitol, but it's not just malitol -- sugar alcohols in general can be problematic. Xylitol is another one that can cause serious GI distress, and I think that one was recently linked to some other negative effects. The adage "No such thing as a free lunch" comes to mind with any of this stuff. Moderation is key.
