The only use case is for someone to create an aversion to binging on candy by making them crap themselves every time they binge.

For me, simple carbs are an issue no matter the source, so I'm always very careful to consume any only in conjunction with non-spiking foods (protein, fiber). But, yes, it's a problem that there are some people that react poorly to malitol, but it's not just malitol -- sugar alcohols in general can be problematic. Xylitol is another one that can cause serious GI distress, and I think that one was recently linked to some other negative effects. The adage "No such thing as a free lunch" comes to mind with any of this stuff. Moderation is key.
