Yep, that's why I bought mine back in June and at that time, it was $250 though B&H. I do remember Seagate was selling it for around $290 at the time which made me side w/ B&H.

not my experience. I bought 2 of these 26TB Seagates and I get around 240-250 MB/s speeds in the enclosure , I just plugged it into my usb 3 port on my PC. I transferred stuff from my SSD/NVMe to this drive.

Also, before I bought this drive, I watched on youtube guys that bought the device, and shared their experience. I recommend doing that for anyone that buys something like this.

Community Reviews

The 26TB Seagate Expansion Desktop is drawing attention as a cheap source of large-capacity storage, especially for shucking into NAS builds or using as cold backup space. The enclosure has been getting real-world transfer reports around 240 to 250 MB per second over USB 3, and some setups run Plex or media storage fine when the drive is not the bottleneck. The main cautions are noise, heat, and uncertainty about what drive is inside, with reports of Barracuda or HAMR based units and warnings that it is not rated for 24/7 NAS use. The micro USB B connector and awkward shucking process also stand out. A practical pick for bulk storage if you can live with the quirks.

Is this good for a Plex server? I'm reaching my 4TB SSD limit, and tbh, I use LGTV to watch plex and the platform is so slow I don't think the SSD helped much, so I'm considering the switch.
Get a fast roku or firestick or appletv, and dedicate it to plex. Those tv apps are balls slow

I picked up four 22 TB two weeks ago and shucked them last weekend. All Exos inside.
Where did you purchase the 22tb from? And were they Barracuda or actually Exos labeled?

Thats why I just snagged a 16tb for 229. Still exos enterprise. Wouldnt touch one of these if you paid me.
Did you get the 16TB at that price from Seagate website? I would be interested in something like that over this if it's still available. Thanks!

The EXOs are (likely very) old stock. All the new external drives are branded Barracuda. Some claim these HAMR drives are enterprise drives just rebranded to avoid shucking. That said, it's all likely speculation.

I remember storing programs on cassette tapes after typing them from the back of a magazine so...
Even better was stealing my sister's cassette tapes and wiping them for my TRS-80 programs!

Unit I received seems to love thumping and tapping at my desk like no HD I've ever heard before when reading bluray rips. Anyone else finding this as well? My WD red NAS drive doesn't make a sound reading the same file.

I decided to sleep on it overnight but appears sold out. Was on the fence about it and will hold for something a bit more reliable for general backups and Plex Media. It was a solid deal but the feedback I've read about the high temperatures was concerning.

Yah, but either it stopped after a few days or I stopped noticing. It's very loud when it wakes up from sleep, but adjusting power settings helps.
