If you have to piece your broom together so the manufacturer can save on shipping costs, its not a good broom.

We got one about five years ago that was an exception to that rule. Purchased it intending it to be a disposable for the kid to "help" with cleaning. Now she's old enough to actually be helpful, and it's still a favorite.

The handle, in spite of being screw together, is about 7/8", and sold. It has a similarly solid dust pan.

We ordered another of the (ostensibly) same broom a year ago. What arrived was ... superficially similar looking? The handle was thinner, much lighter, and felt like it would bend or break if you looked at it funny, and the parts that are rubberized plastic on the older one were brittle thin hard plastic.

We returned it.

Cory Doctorow really hit that nail on the head.
