The replacement filters for this unit isn't too pricey. But not sure how good the filtration can be...

This thing will basically be little different from earlier generation attach-to-faucet filters. They'll be a slight step up from the simple gravity filters given that it looks like the battery operated pump actually provides a bit of extra pressure to go through more filter media.

Seems not as good as a reverse osmosis system. Anyone come across information about how good thing thing is at filtering?

Reverse Osmosis will be the best that you'll get in filtration technology for consumption purposes. Just an FYI, you don't need RO level purity - the process produces "too pure" of a water and tastes too differently for many people's liking. You actually have to add back in some minerals so that the water tastes properly.

It really depends on what the goal is. RO water doesn't taste as good as water with sufficient minerals in it, for example. Filters like this and Brita are a different technology that mostly targets taste rather than removing all dissolved solids like an RO system does.

I use zero water and it's darn close to RO. I add mineral drops.

If you want the cleanest and purest water possible, use heat distillation. Distilled water is what labs and hospitals use. Not only are all particulates and virtually all VOCs removed, but the heat will also destroy all pathogens (except for prions, which needs >900°F for several hours). The downside is that distillation is slow (1 liter per hour) and consumes 750W while it run because you're basically boiling a tank of water until all the water evaporates.
