The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is a Windows handheld PC aimed at portable PC gaming, with a 7 inch 120 hertz screen, comfortable grips, and support for Steam, Game Pass Ultimate, and other PC stores. The display is praised for its higher resolution and refresh rate, and the Xbox style interface plus Windows flexibility are strong draws. Performance is described as close to or below the Steam Deck in some comparisons, and battery life can fall to a couple hours unless power draw is heavily limited. It also carries some rough edges, including a login pin pad bug and a relatively heavy feel, making it a capable but imperfect handheld.
Common Questions (5)
It makes the most sense if you want Windows out of the box, need anti-cheat-heavy competitive games, or prefer broader PC launcher support. If you mainly want SteamOS simplicity, better battery life, or the cheapest handheld option, the Steam Deck is the stronger fit.
It has a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display and is described as roughly similar in power to a Steam Deck, with some comments saying it benches slightly slower than the OLED Steam Deck. The main tradeoff is Windows flexibility versus SteamOS, plus reports of heavier weight and shorter battery life.
Yes, Steam can be installed on it, and it can also run games from other PC storefronts like Epic and GOG. It is a Windows handheld PC, so it is not limited to Xbox titles.
Yes. The handheld is a PC, so Game Pass Ultimate works the same way it does on other Windows PCs through the Microsoft Store or Xbox app. You can also use the same Microsoft account for subscriptions and purchases.
No. It is a handheld PC with Xbox branding and UI, not a Series S|X console, so it only plays games available on PC. Console exclusives would require streaming.
