Eddie Bauer clearance is strongest for steep apparel and gear discounts, especially on down outerwear, travel pants, medium tall shirts, and kids items. The sale can stack with free in store pickup, free returns when available, cashback, and occasional birthday codes, which helps offset shipping thresholds. The main drawbacks are the brand changes behind the scenes, with warranty coverage now described as much shorter and older lifetime promises no longer honored. Quality complaints also surface around jeans, hiking pants, T shirts, and overall fit, making this feel best for bargain hunters who know the current sizing and policies.

Common Questions (5)

  • No. The lifetime warranty has been phased out, and current coverage is reportedly limited to 60 days for returns, exchanges, and warranty claims. That means older lifetime-warranty promises may no longer be honored under the new ownership.

  • Shipping is free on orders over $99.99. If you can use store pickup, that can also avoid shipping charges and free returns may be available in store when the item is eligible for pickup.

  • Yes, a 10% birthday code can apply to clearance, but it is calculated before the 50% clearance discount. Eddie Bauer has also switched from generic birthday codes to one-time-use codes.

  • The current policy is reportedly 30 days with a $10 restocking fee, and orders placed before 2/1/26 are still under the old policy. That makes returns more restrictive than the earlier rules.

  • Yes. Eddie Bauer offers medium tall shirts, which helps tall, skinny shoppers get sleeves that are long enough without extra bagginess.

They're probably fine with you not shopping there.

A "lifetime warranty" is largely a marketing promise and a way to build trust in the brand. It's meant to cover manufacturing defects or poor workmanship that prevent the product from functioning as advertised — not decades of normal wear, misuse, or abuse. No company covers that.

Realistically, no one keeps proof of purchase for decades, and few people want to pay out-of-pocket shipping just to replace an old item when newer, improved versions are widely available at good prices. In many cases, the shipping alone costs nearly as much as buying a new product.

Even electronics with one- or two-year warranties come with fine print and are often denied for breakage. That's just how warranties work.

Let companies survive and keep innovating so we can all continue to enjoy good products and good deals. Cheers!
I'm fine not shopping there AND I'm fine that they're fine. My comment was meant to inform people Eddie Bauer abandoned this perk.
And the warranty didn't require proof of purchase. There's an Eddie Bauer logo on the backpack. They knew I bought it from their company.
I was a walking advertisement for their brand for over 10 years, and they were happy to honor the promise they made when I bought the product up until recently.
I'm communicating my experience.

It's a good thing you dom't appear to let facts, the law, reason, or definitions get in the way of your replies. Nobody made Eddie Bauer offer lifetime wareanty. They offered it, they need to honor it. Reality is not what's in ~your~ head (thank goodness). Just because you think it's "just marketing" doesn't make it so, nor is it an exuse to lie. "Oh, we said it was lifetime warranty`, but we lied, because 'it's just marketing.' "Gee, lying, why didn't anyone else think that neat trick up?" There are most certainly companies (likely ncluding E.Bauer until they changed owner), such as Patagonia (if I recall), Snap-On, Wilson Leather (back in the day), who mean and so exactly what they say, warranteeing and repairing/replacing merchandise according to their lifetime warranty. HP was renowned in the IT network industry for decades, as they included a lifetime warranty, and honored it. When market and product eventually changed, they changed their warranty going forward, and that's fine, but they didn't simply say "Nope, teehee, it was just a marketing lie."

Thanks for the heads-up that JCP now owns EB.
History seems to indicate this is a death-rattle for another, once iconic, American brand.
And I guess Eddie Bauer must be struggling too! 😵 😅🤪

I was told by their customer service that return, exchange and warranty are now only covered for 60 days from the purchase date. The new owner is JCPenny. Feels like the good days of product quality, reasonable prices and warranty are behind us for Eddie Bauer.
The new owner is JCPenney, or EB and JCP are now owned by the same Parent Company?

FYI - I bought an Eddie Bauer backpack over a decade ago specifically because they were offering a lifetime warranty. I replaced it once about 5 years after that, no problem, but then just the other day tried to replace it again after the strap began to tear off, and discovered Eddie Bauer phased out the lifetime warranty in recent years. Citing new ownership, the clerk refused to honor the lifetime warranty I bought the backpack under. Given they no longer have or honor the lifetime warranty, I see no reason to ever buy their products again. Buyer beware, I suppose.
Yep EB is dead. Over the past 5 years their styles, fit, and quality have gone down hill. It's hardly recognizable anymore. I've found Duluth, Orvis, and LL Bean to fill the void mostly. Unfortunate. I had an EB retail store 15 minutes from my house and at one point half my closet was EB. The amount of business I gave EB dropped a lot when they closed the retail store. I still like to try on my clothes when able. With the warranty gone you're correct that there is no reason to shop there anymore.

Dang, this makes so much sense. I have always worn their jeans, but my last two pairs (maybe two years old) have fallen apart.

i bought their down coat and down parka, 650 fill, both totaling $119 in the after Christmas sale. that was a good reason for me. both were reduced and had additional 50% off.

There's nothing to "beware" of here. Businesses can't survive when people nitpick every little inconvenience and keep demanding more even after being helped once. You already received a free replacement, then broke it again, and now expect another one after decades. How long is that cycle supposed to go on?If I didn't like a burger yesterday, should I walk into your restaurant today and demand a free one, and repeat tomorrow? It sounds absurd because it is absurd. This kind of behavior is exactly why prices keep rising for everyone and why customer service keeps declining—legitimate customers end up treated like freeloaders and thieves because of situations like this.I've never once asked for a replacement in my life, not even for electronics under warranty that I didn't bother to check. Meanwhile, some people want free clothes and backpacks forever. That's not fairness—that's exploitation.
I concur. If EB decided to switch things up, it's one thing, but everyone knows the EB today ain't the EB it was 10 years ago and freeloaders expect the new owners to honor something set forth a decade ago? Not happening - and to be irritated by this is ignorant at best. These same types be lobbying their new landlord to charge them what the last tenant paid for...ever.If you want to buy a backpack that'll last forever, don't buy one from EB.

Thank you for the info - I was not aware. I am a EB fan, and did use EB's Lifetime Warranty policy several years ago when a down jacket failed 2-3 years later and the local retail store gladly gave me a refund to pick out an equivalent replacement.

Not liking a burger is different than a backpack falling apart, but thank you for the comparison. My point was Eddie Bauer once had a lifetime warranty and now they don't, so my incentive to shop at their store is gone. Maybe yours remains. Good luck.
You gonna not shop at Walmart now that they aren't open 24/7 too? Imagine going through life basing every decision you make on "that one experience".My dog died - welp, I certainly won't get another one of those. My girlfriend dumped me - ha, won't make mistake again (I'ma ride the single train until I die).I just got fired from my job - never gonna do that again (I.e., you can't fire me if I'm unemployed).

LOL, comparing EB to Pat and Snap to make your point. That backpack isn't in the same ballpark as the worst thing either of those c/would make, but keep telling yourself an overpriced alloy wrench is the same thing as a flimsy backpack. Durability should not be confused with gullibility. And WTF is wrong with your keyboard?

Good, less competition for me! They still make the best lightweight travel pants on the planet...if/when the time comes they shed/shred the Ascent line, I'ma continue throwing my $$$ at them.

You've had a ten year run on a heavily used backpack from Eddie Bauer, which they already replaced in full once, and now you're angry they won't do it again. A decade of your life with a cheap backpack, and they gave you a brand new one half way though. That seems like an absurd thing to be upset about.
