Fire TV imo is better than webOS and Tizen but I'd still get a Roku or Apple TV 4K. It just comes down to personal preference

Anyone have experience with Fire TVs? I always read negative things about them, but would it be so bad if an Apple TV or external device is what mainly controlled the watchable content?

I have nothing but negative experience, personally. I actually have 2 fire tv's that technically work, but the OS has basically locked them. They used to work if I factory reset it on every startup, so I'd have to re-download all apps and everything, but eventually they both stopped liking that solution, and now fail to do anything besides play audio of whatever they're advertising on prime with a black screen. Keep in mind both of these had extremely low usage, less than 50 hours of I remember correctly. Different brands as well. If you really like the fire os, just get a different TV and a fire stick. I've had no issues with my LG C4

I'm really thinking of getting this TV and using an Apple TV to play anything. My main concern is how overbearing the Fire TV OS is going to be regardless, and if it will mess up the TVs experience if I go that route.

It's a fairly cheap price, so I'd say can't really go wrong. Just FYI though with my issue, you can't use any of the inputs, the TV is basically bricked if the Fire tv operating system has a issue, which is very unfortunate, I don't need fire os at all, I use my Xbox for literally everything

I have a 50" fire tv and 50" roku tv, they are basically the same. I prefer the Fire because it is faster. Never had a single problem using an app with it.

Roku is way better imo. Fire tv always seems to slow down with every update until eventually it's a pain to even navigate. I bought a new fire stick to get around that, but the tv will always start to the built in fire os, even when the "last input" is selected for startup, among other issues

Do not use the tv's os. How many times does this have to be said.

Yes, I cannot recommend a Fire TV because of this, and if you've misplaced the regular Fire TV remote, good luck changing inputs back, especially if the TV doesn't have any hard buttons on it.
