No idea if it's a deal, but I do want it. I think the 9 spots of drying I have now are enough, though.

Generally, annealing temperatures start at 80C up to 240C+ for exotic filaments like PPS-CF. That's whatbyoure paying for with the E2, the 110C max temp. The S4 can only reach 70C

It's the annealing capability (110C Max). For carbon fiber nylon filaments like PA6-CF, PA12-CF, PPA-CF; you need to anneal to fully unlock the extreme capabilities of the filament: https://youtu.be/u8dIpwd6tzo?si=aYmZmPg70Gjj2FT4

Because this is for annealing prints. This is a post print process for making your prints 10x stronger. It's capable of annealing engineering filaments (ultra high temp) and can even be used to recharge your silica beads safely. Basically, this is the best "filament dryer" out there within consumer price ranges. Calling this a "filament dryer" is actually just dumbing down what this actually is/used for.

Sunlu is really fighting an uphill battle try to sell this thing. Most printer users can't even manage to properly dry their filaments, let alone understand the concept of annealing. It's a shame, the only viable alternatives for annealing are a Chinesium lab oven (sketchy) or a hacked toaster oven (even sketchier)

Another option is the West3d toaster. Four slots, quiet, and goes to 120c I believe.

For the West3D toaster, does anyone know if it has a fairly accurate PID controller? The product itself looks like a modified toaster oven with a custom controller, but there's no details on said controller or how accurate it is on the website or the manual. Also, the website states 120C max temp but the manual states 100C. The manual also says no annealing, only drying. Would be nice if it was accurate enough to anneal as it's significantly cheaper! ($170 vs. the $250+ for the E2)

I'm *very* new to 3d printing but doesn't "annealing" happen after a print is made?

Ello. If you read the description. In Dec 2025 they announced a annealing tray. Based on the wattage. This appears better than the sunlu E2 imho.
