We have this for 2 cats. Generally change every 4-5 days and it's usually still 1/3 full at that point. The plastic gets a little slimy and it's extremely difficult to clean the inside of the round part that supports the water jar, if that kind of thing is important to you (I don't stress it). I suppose you could pop it apart for cleaning, but I suspect that the tabs would begin breaking relatively soon.

I've gotten through many "automatic" water dispensers but they're always a pain to clean. IMO, the cheapest and easiest to clean is a tall bowl. Something elevated so the cat's neck isn't angled so steep.

I had this problem too, and eventually it started growing algae inside the bowl. I threw it away and bought 2 new ones, now I switch back and forth between them so they can dry completely every couple days. It's worked very well so far.
