This refurbished ThinkPad T14 is a compact Linux friendly business laptop with a Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U, 16GB of memory, and an upgradeable SSD. The chassis is light at roughly 3.22 to 3.41 pounds, and the memory and wireless card appear replaceable, which helps for future upgrades. The main tradeoffs are the non touch display and likely modest 250 nit panel, with battery life also called out as weaker than a comparable Intel model. A practical secondary machine if you value repairability and low cost over a brighter screen.

  • The laptop can support Linux use cases with at least one replaceable RAM stick and an upgradeable SSD.

    bradtacoAnonxxx

  • The ThinkPad T14 can fit FreeBSD driver support priorities for a secondary machine setup.

    bradtaco

  • The unit can be identified precisely by looking up the UPC and part identifiers from the eBay description.

    Frd_Chckn

  • The ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 AMD can weigh about 3.22 to 3.41 pounds based on Lenovo PSREF specs.

    mooch91

  • The screen brightness can be limited to a 250 nit tier instead of a 400 nit option, which may feel underwhelming.

    mooch91p3dal

  • Thunderbolt availability can be less common on Ryzen systems, so Intel-style connectivity may not be guaranteed.

    edrock200ghostfreckle

  • Battery life can be significantly worse on the AMD ThinkPad configuration compared with an Intel P14s Gen 5 experience.

    mooch91

  • The exact hardware configuration can be hard to confirm from the listing, including battery type, display variant, and backlit keyboard.

Is this a good deal for a linux laptop? Research suggests only one RAM stick is soldered and the other is replaceable. SSD also seems to be upgradeable.

Ryzen systems can have thunderbolt too. It's not as common, but it's not exclusive to Intel.

Non-touch screen, for those that care. I always get excited about a steal of a laptop before realizing it's missing.

Totally. Smilie

I'm in for one. I might regret it vs the Intel model I saw listed but there's a high chance I'll run FreeBSD on this and driver support / cost are my priorities for this system. This is a secondary machine, just needed a good enough laptop that isn't stuck in the Apple garden.

If anyone happens to get an actual model number, or more detailed specs on this unit, before the deal expires, please respond back. Interested to know which battery is in this, specifically which display, if keyboard is backlit, etc. Thinkpads have a lot of options and they could make or break a decision on this deal. I noticed newegg doesn't provide much in the listing, unlike some others they have. Thanks.

Looking for the Lenovo part number. That just brings me to the Newegg site which has the same information.
