These are great. I bought a set a few months ago and they're still going strong. I tried the double-sided version from this same brand and they're awful, so I'll grab another set of these.

It is not for safety, it does that to accommodate to the different warm settings, keeping the same circuit. And yes, they do the on-off switch.
