I like them and I paid $49 with a free gift. Good sound and comfortable. I've had success using them with calls too, people have never noticed a call quality problem on their end. They connect well and battery life is good.

There is an app, but you don't need to create an account to use the app. It works fully in guest mode and remembers your settings. That said, there are a few permissions either required or optional to use it.
About the app permissions: "The Baseus earbud app for Android primarily needs bluetooth & nearby devices to find and connect to your earbuds, plus location permission (often for Wi-Fi scanning to add devices or for anti-lost features) and potentially microphone for voice commands, but it also controversially asks for contacts & call history, which is optional but enables caller announcements.

You'll usually be prompted for these permissions (Location, Contacts/Call History) during setup, with options to allow "While using the app," "Ask every time," or "Don't allow," except for Location, which might have an "All the time" option for features like anti-lost alerts."

I just feel with this particular form factor sometimes you're just better off going with the cheapest generic you can find since ultimately they're not using expensive drivers and they're not creating a seal so sound quality is going to be compromised no matter what. If you really just need something that's going to allow you to like listen to a podcast and still have ambient awareness... Donner, soundpeats have options for $10 occasionally.
