Not too shabby on the price. I'm interested in getting a compact hacksaw but I think I'd prefer the ones that have the blade go beyond the tool arm.

Why are the ones with the blades going past the arm better? I always wondered why they were like that.

Less material size restrictions.

Although very fimsy as it extends resulting in uneven cuts

Going to try this for seldom used, at-home bone cutting on steaks (and then knife through ribeye)..

Butcher recommeded butterflying 2.5 inch bone-in ribeye steaks (which I never thought to do to get down to 1+ inch serving size while preserving presentation of bone)

We made our own from a regular blade by wrapping the last 3-4 inches of the blade with tape. Worked fine when you needed something slim.

I'd think all the grooves and holes of this thing would get gross if you used it for meat, especially raw meat. Would be very hard to get clean after

Because in tight spaces for which this is designed the frame often gets in the way of sawing.

This Lenox one is pretty sweet. The quick blade change lever lets you adjust the length of the blade quick and easy. You can extend the blade to almost full length, giving you another 4-5" past the frame. $8 at Menards plus current 15% off bag sale brings it down to $6.79. Thinking about going back to get a second one. The grip is pretty beefy and feels solid.
