Can a rice expert weigh in on why this one is smooth but the one that came with my rice cooker is textured/dimpled

Rise expert here. The dimples of the other one help it rise through the air, like a golf ball. I can't speak to it's impact on rice though.

Do yourself a favor and switch to silicone; Nylon is toxic AF for microplastic leeching.

Nylon, by definition, is not toxic. Neither are microplastics, they are their own very real health risk but dont mix buzzwords, it undermines the point you try to make.

The ones with dimples are meant for white rice. The smooth variety is meant for brown rice. Or it could be the other way around. 🤔
