Basically yes. The only real difference between dehumidifer and a AC is a AC vents outside.

I looked at it for that intention also. This will not perform like a designated dehumidifier. If you are just wanting to decrease the humidity and cool a small room like a pantry or house laundry room, then this might work. However, given that it is so small (27-ish inches tall) and doesn't state the estimated amount of water removed, it's not something that is going to make a difference for a basement or crawlspace area. This is a cooling unit for a single room and by cooling the room, it lowers the moisture in the air some.

It's not a dual-hose model, so it won't be nearly as efficient. A single-hose unit like this uses room air to cool the heat exchanger and blows the warm air outside as expected, but that creates a little pressure imbalance which causes air to be drawn into the room from other rooms, which ultimately causes warmer air from outside to be drawn into the house through cracks and gaps in windows and doors. Dual-hose models draw in air from the outside via one hose to cool the relatively hot heat exchanger and blow the hot air outside via a separate hose. FYI. Smilie

got nothing to do with venting. its the matter if it can blow out freezing cold air. can your vented dehumidifier do that?
