We've been through this before...

The issue is usually that people have no idea what Fill Power actually means. Fill Power is a measure of the quality of the down insulation. It's literally just the number of a cubic inches that one ounce of down takes up... it's a measure of 'fluffiness'... which translates into insulating power... which translates into quality.

However, it's not a measure of how warm a jacket is. To know that (in addition to how it's distributed, etc), you need to know both the quality (Fill Power) and the quantity (Fill Weight) of the garment.

So... an 850 Fill Power jacket can have less down in it than a 550 Fill Power jacket and still provide the same warmth... will less bulk.

In addition, jackets like this are made to be mid-layers and not outer layers. The thin nylon fabric is designed to reduce bulk when worn under a shell layer. They're not terribly rip or abrasion resistant... and aren't designed to be. This would be a nice mid-layer... or an 'around town' mid-weight jacket, but it's not the right call for a wet day in the woods or tramping thru brush.

EB CirrusLite [eddiebauer.com] - This is the 'standard' EB 650 Fill Power jacket... reasonably priced, reasonably warm.

LLBean Ultrilight 850 [llbean.com] - If you can find this one on sale (I got it for under $60 before CB), it's great value for the money. 850FP and good fill weight (probably twice the fill weight of the Eddie Bauer). Very warm (and might be too warm, in certain circumstances).

Other solid options out there for more technical gear (I own Mountain Hardwear and Patagonia down as well)... can be a bargain if you find them on-sale. Particularly like MH StretchDown.

To expand on this the majority of the one star reviews seem to echo this sentiment like the following:

---------------

Submitted 1 month agoBy RobFrom NE, PennsylvaniaTerrible jacket. Terrible fit. Terrible quality. The sides are spandex so there's zero insulation there. And there's No way this jacket is a 550 down fill. Whoever designed this jacket should be fired.

Down alternative is not good. Best to pay extra and get the genuine Down 650 Fill.

This jacket is NOT DOWN. It's "down alternative." Polyester fill.
Nani!? What the what are you talking about 🧐? It's probably not the best quality down but it's not a synthetic according to the product page.

I bought this jacket in the store at Costco maybe a year ago for around the same price.

It is very light but real down and the sides are fabric. Nice for cool weather, not good for cold.

I can understand how someone buying this mail order expecting a normal thicker down jacket would be disappointed.

I knew exactly what I was getting, and I like mine for lighter temps.

I bought this coat for my teenage son; I saw it in the store and for $25 it's a steal. Lightweight, comfortable and thin. The perfect coat for a teenager who's not into wearing a puffy winter coat but still needs something for winter.

The color is more like Periwinkle than gray. The spandex on the sides actually makes it more comfortable even if it does sacrifice warmth a little bit.

These are actually so lightweight and relatively thin, they are perfect as a layer on super cold days. It's not the best, but for $25, good luck even finding any sort of layerable undergarment similar

Costco had this same jacket several years ago. It looked good until I saw that the sides are a stretch fabric, not down filled like the rest of the jacket.

I don't now if this is similar in comfort to 32 Degrees packable Jacket. Some suggestions? Thank you.

I bought the vest version of this last year at Costco. Debated it for a long time until it dropped to $6. Ended up really liking it for southern California "winter" and for road trips. Keeps the front and back warm enough while venting well from the sides while sitting in the car, or while active (hiking, playing in the park, etc).

I have the old version of this from ten years back before they changed their logo and likely lowered the quality. That said, for $25, this is likely the same tier as the puffers you'll find at Costco, except it actually has down in it. You could probably do way worse, but as others have stated, I'd use it under a shell and not wear it as a primary jacket. I can't imagine it'd be that bad for 45-50 degree weather so long as you wear a long sleeve or hoodie under. I wouldn't buy it again since I'd probably go for Mountain Hardware whenever they have sales, but you'll be spending $80-100.

This jacket will keep you warm all the way down to 55F.

Seriously though, if the low fill power rating wasn't enough to clue you in, the complete omission of fill weight should be. These are fall jackets at best.
