Every watch charger I've bought that wasn't from Apple has been a fake and made the watches get hotter than original Apple chargers, and charge slowly. And there have been some really authentic looking fakes.

Per Woot...
"Hey, you there! These items ship in bulk packaging. The product is brand new and is sourced directly from Apple, but will arrive in a polybag or plain brown box. Why, you ask? Because these are excess units from the final production run and Apple decided to liquidate them instead of packaging them for Retail sale."
Where do you go to see that?

Never, ever buy Apple watch chargers from Woot.
They have been branding "charger for Apple Watch made by a third party" as "Apple Watch Charger" repeatedly. They cannot be trusted.
Surprising. Amazn has no knockoff products at all. Wink

Just got mine in. It's OWC (Other World Computing, aka macsales.com) overstock. It's effectively a 1st gen Apple watch charger with a USB-C end instead of USB-A. Apple's USB-C charger can do ~4 watts while this one, and the USB-A Apple charger, can do ~2.5 watts. I don't know if Apple ever released a USB-C version of the first gen ~2.5 watt charger. Regarding woven cables, neither of the Apple cables (USB-A or USB-C) or the OWC cable use a woven cable. Physically, aside from the USB-C end, the OWC cable looks & functions identically to the Apple USB-A cable.

OWC products have been solid & reliable for many, many years so these should work perfectly without any sort of compatibility issues, albeit at ~2.5 watts (which only matters for series 7 and newer). I'm annoyed that it isn't exactly what I expected to purchase as I explicitly wanted the 2nd gen 4 watt version, but at least it isn't one of the random knockoff charges that only do ~0.5-1 watt, if they work at all. I'm also annoyed that the product pictures were a bit misleading as they appear to show the 2nd gen that has a silver frame around the charger while the 1st gen (and these from OWC) are all white.

Edit: Reduced charge rate only affects series 7 and newer. Email sent to customer service outlining the misleading and incorrect product description.

Edit-2: OWC list all of their Apple watch charge cables as magnetic fast charge cables but offers them as "white-banded puck" (aka 1st gen) or "metal-banded puck" (aka 2nd gen), implying the only difference is the style/color of the puck. So Woot's description is matching OWC's description, although what I received was the "white-banded puck" version while at least a couple of the Woot pictures implied it was the "metal-banded puck" version.

Plugging it in and looking at the cable info in System Information shows information identical to a stock Apple cable (aside from the serial number). The net result is that yes, these are effectively true Apple cables that were being sold through OWC and and are now being cleared out via Woot and can be used without worrying about any sort of compatibility problems that knockoff cables have. Just be aware that what is most likely being sold is the 1st gen "white-banded puck" version which means all watches will charge at the same rate. It's the 2nd gen "metal-banded puck" version that improved the charger so that series 7 and newer can charge faster. And no, the cables are not woven.

Covvie is exactly right. I received this OWC item APLA2652A.
https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/A2652A/
Note that this is neither "fast charging" nor woven. While it was new and high quality, this is not what was described or what I wanted to fast charge a Series 8. Requested a refund via email.

This is a very interesting deal. I debated between 2 or 3 but since watches come with a charger, I didn't need more than 2. Still very tempting to buy a third. I think if there was a better guarentee (ie official apple boxed) I would've bought 3. A bit hesitant this is just a good fake.

In for a 3 pack, fingers crossed they are legit. Because they are listed as a woven cable I suspect they will be. I've not seen any non OEM Apple Watch cables that are woven cable
The ones I just received were not woven, so I'm retuning mine

Thanks for the in-depth explanation. It's a bummer because the ones I got from a couple of months back were the fast charging 2nd gen.

I've gotten a reply from customer service. They offered either a refund or to check if the expected model is available. I've asked to check if the 2nd gen metal-backed puck are available to do an exchange with, otherwise I'll opt for a refund.

Keep us posted. I'd go for the 2nd gen metal model too if I could

Good to know, and I'm a bit jealous since none of mine are. Neither the USB-A one from my series 5 or the USB-C one from my series 8 are woven, and the one additional USB-C version I got a year or two back isn't either. Now I'm kind of curious when the switch to woven happened.
