So, it doesn't look like the metal version is available.
So, it doesn't look like the metal version is available.
OWC products have been solid & reliable for many, many years so these should work perfectly without any sort of compatibility issues, albeit at ~2.5 watts (which only matters for series 7 and newer). I'm annoyed that it isn't exactly what I expected to purchase as I explicitly wanted the 2nd gen 4 watt version, but at least it isn't one of the random knockoff charges that only do ~0.5-1 watt, if they work at all. I'm also annoyed that the product pictures were a bit misleading as they appear to show the 2nd gen that has a silver frame around the charger while the 1st gen (and these from OWC) are all white.
Edit: Reduced charge rate only affects series 7 and newer. Email sent to customer service outlining the misleading and incorrect product description.
Edit-2: OWC list all of their Apple watch charge cables as magnetic fast charge cables but offers them as "white-banded puck" (aka 1st gen) or "metal-banded puck" (aka 2nd gen), implying the only difference is the style/color of the puck. So Woot's description is matching OWC's description, although what I received was the "white-banded puck" version while at least a couple of the Woot pictures implied it was the "metal-banded puck" version.
Plugging it in and looking at the cable info in System Information shows information identical to a stock Apple cable (aside from the serial number). The net result is that yes, these are effectively true Apple cables that were being sold through OWC and and are now being cleared out via Woot and can be used without worrying about any sort of compatibility problems that knockoff cables have. Just be aware that what is most likely being sold is the 1st gen "white-banded puck" version which means all watches will charge at the same rate. It's the 2nd gen "metal-banded puck" version that improved the charger so that series 7 and newer can charge faster. And no, the cables are not woven.
